More then a year ahead of the forthcoming 16. Istanbul Biennial today the next curator was announced: the french curator and theorist Nicolas Bourriaud. 15. Istanbul Biennale was curated by the artist-duo Elmgreen & Dragset, now it´s back to normal with the new decision.
Organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and sponsored by Koç Holding, the biennale will take place between 14 September and 10 November 2019.
Bourriaud, one of the co-founders of Palais de Tokyo, Paris and current director of the Montpellier Contemporain, stated, “I am very honoured to be able to contribute to the history of Istanbul Biennial, which has always been a place of strong curatorial statements since its creation in 1987. Also, as a crossing point, the city of Istanbul takes a specific signification today, in a global political era marked by binary thought. I will try to build an exhibition that measures up to our historical situation.”
The 16th Istanbul Biennial is organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and sponsored by Koç Holding as well as other supporters, international funders, and funding bodies to be announced. The conceptual framework of the 16th Istanbul Biennial will be announced at a press meeting to be held in fall 2018. The media preview of the biennial will be held on 10-13 September 2019 and professional preview will be held on 12-13 September 2019.
