Since opening his studio on the island of Murano in 1989, Venice native Adriano Berengo has been dedicated to glass. More and more artists get pieces of their Pavillon-installations produced at his studio, like Renate Bertlmann´s „Kniferoses“ in the Austrian Pavillon or Laura Prouvost´s beautiful objects in the France Pavillon at this year´s 58. Venice Biennale.

Within the last years he invited over 300 artists — with little or no experience working with glass — to create extraordinary works in cooperation with Muranese masters at his studio.

And since 2009 Berengo has biannually invited leading international artists for the show „Glasstress“, opening in the week of the Venice Biennale.

Brasilian artist Vik Muniz curated a section to explore „how glass redefines our perception of space“. Another section is curated by Belgian artist Koen Vanmechelen with highlights from the past ten years, and a special project by Robert Wilson is curated by Jean Blanchaert.
