11. India Art Fair, Neu-Delhi 2019
Jetzt hat er es geschafft: Sandy Angus konnte für seine Messegesellschaft Angus Montgomery die restlichen 65 Prozent der India Art Fair von MCH kaufen. 2008 von Neha Kirpal gegründet, hatte sich die indische Kunstmesse in New Delhi schnell zu einem erfolgreichen Marktplatz internationaler Kunst auf dem Subkontinent entwickelt. 2011 stieg Angus mit 35 Prozent bei der Messe ein, 2016 folgte ihm die Basler Messegesellschaft MCH als Mehrheitseigner mit 65 Prozent. Im November 2018 kündigte MCH überraschend den Ausstieg an. Finanzielle Schwierigkeiten und ein Führungswechsel der Messegesellschaft hatten dazu geführt, dass die Idee eines Portfolios mit regionalen Kunstmessen aufgelassen wurde.
Dieser Ausstieg hatte auf der letzten Ausgabe der India Art Fair im Januar 2019 für einige Verunsicherung sorgte. Wer würde diese Mehrheit übernehmen, wieviel Einfluss könnte ein potentieller neuer Miteigentümer ausüben? MCH-Managing Direktor Frank Lasry erklärte damals im Gespräch, dass sie noch den „Richtigen“ suchen. Sandy Angus hoffte, dass dieser neue Partner an einer „engen Kooperation“ und nicht nur an einem Investment interessiert sein werde, wie er im Interview im Januar in New Delhi betonte. Und verriet, dass er gerne selbst die MCH-Anteile übernehmen würde. Jetzt hat die Verunsicherung also ein Ende und die Verhandlungen einen guten Ausgang genommen: Die India Art Fair ist zu 100 Prozet im Besitz von Angus Montgomery. „We are delighted that a reputable and reliable partner is taking over our shares and making a very strong commitment to India Art Fair,“ wird Bernd Stadlwieser, CEO der MCH Gruppe, in der offiziellen Aussendung zitiert. „He will support the fair in continuing its successful development.“ Und Sandy Angus dazu: „Having worked with India Art Fair since 2011, we have seen significant growth and look forward to continuing our commitment to India and developing the fair further in the region and internationally, ensuring ist status as one of the anticipated events in the global art fair calendar.“ Die nächste Ausgabe wird vom 30. Januar bis 2. Februar 2020 stattfinden.
